Kids Say the Dearest Things

So I made the big announcement at work this week and I will admit, it was a bit overwhelming. I work at a small school and news travels fast! I had the discussion with my students (first graders) and I started by asking them if they knew what "pregnant" meant. Of course almost every hand went up and it only got more interesting from there! They all started telling me how many times their moms had been pregnant. The cutest response was when one of my boys, who is the youngest of 3, said to me "Oh, my mom's only been pregnant once. She had 3 babies inside of her and we all came out at different times." Too cute! Of course the big question finally came, "Mrs. Fassett, how did you get pregnant?" There aren't many topics that I don't teach, but this is definitely one of them. I told him to go home and ask his mom. (I'm sure she was thrilled about that!) At this point I had only told them I was pregnant and left out the twin details. Way too many questions and responses come after you tell someone you are pregnant with twins and I wasn't quite ready for that.

One student asked me when the baby would come and why we had to wait so long. I told her that my body was like an oven and it was baking cookies. We talked about what happens when you pull out the cookies too soon. They seemed to get it after that.

Well, after telling a few select people about the twin part of the pregnancy, word spread on the playground and Wednesday started off with a classful of "Mrs. Fassett, is it true you are having twins?" We talked about what an ultrasound was and that I was having one on Friday. I told them that if they found two babies, I would let them know!

Along with the cute questions/comments have come the unique gifts. These kids are too sweet! I've received a bottle, several random "toys", pictures of me with the "baby", but the best has got to be a baby bag that one of my students used for her toy "babies". She wrapped it herself and told me that she didn't need it anymore. She also told me that if I found anything in the bag that she missed to please return it to her tomorrow!

And of course, I can't forget about my adorable nephew Andrew. Every time he greets me, he also says hello and goodbye to the babies while looking at my belly. Too cute!

On another note, only 4 days to get your guesses in........................................The big day is Friday!
So far, we have 1 guess for 2 girls, 4 guesses for girl/boy and 0 guesses for 2 boys. (I don't think anyone wants to give me a panic attack!) Then of course there is my niece Carolina. The first thing she said to me when she found out I was pregnant with twins was (in her unique- Carolina way), "I don't mean to be rude, but I really hope you have 2 girls!" You never have to wonder what is on her mind! On that side of the family there are 2 girls and 3 boys and we all know how Carolina feels about "losing".

Okay, I need to go to bed. Monday morning always comes too soon!

Love, Rebeca
