Yes, our babies are now 15 days old! They are thriving and doing well. Nicolas is up to 5 lbs 5 ozs and our little peanut,Blake, has gained over half a pound and is up to 3 lbs 10 ozs. Nicolas is taking most of his feedings through the bottle. He finishes most of the 45 mls, but sometimes gets tired before its gone and has to get the remainder through his feeding tube. Blake was given the bottle for the first time last night. (it was 3 am so I wasn't there) The nurse said he didn't know what to do with it at first, but eventually figured it out and took 18 out of his 30 mls, which is a great start! They both have attempted nursing and are sometimes successful "latching on".
Blake is still in his incubator, but the temp is very low and the Dr. said he is close to being taken out of it and being in a regular crib.
When I spoke to the Dr. yesterday he was hesitant to give me any kind of indication when the babies might be coming home. He said he doesn't like to give parents an estimate of time because he prefers for parents to be pleasantly surprised versus disappointed. I told him that I totally understood that way of thinking and that was the exact reason I had not asked the question sooner. So, for now, we know the latest they will be coming home is March 17, which was their 40 week due date. It is more likely that they will be home sooner than that. As you can imagine, we are very anxious to have them at home and it kills me to leave them at the hospital day after day after day. To make it worse, Jeff came down with a cold yesterday, so he did not get to visit with them. I am loading up on vitamin C because we all know, moms are not allowed to get sick!!!
So that's all for now. Sunday might be a day of more pictures. Jeff has a wedding tomorrow, so he'll be out of commission until then.
Hugs and Kisses,
Rebeca
