Fun at the Fair

Let me just say that this was a brave day for me as a MOM. Jeff was busy working so I made the oh-so- crazy decision to take the boys to our county fair without him. I was, however, with my sister and my 8 year old nephew so I knew I had back-up. We have the annual tradition of catching the Fair shuttle close to my sister's house and arriving at the fair via school bus. Well, I had bypassed this plan for the last couple of years for obvious reasons but this year something in me thought that the boys would enjoy riding on a school bus....AND they did!

Nico, Tia and my nephew making a weird face

They had this awesome butterfly exhibit for kids this year. You could go into an aviary-like enclosure and dip Q-tips into sugar water and walk around waiting for butterflies to land on your stick. They were very strict about not touching the butterflies. Hmm...how is this going to work with curious 2 year olds? But after a few close calls, they got the picture and we had a fun time finding and "catching" butterflies. This picture was taken when a HUGE one landed on Blakey's shoulder. He giggled as the antennae tickled his cheek.

Andrew, oh-so- serious

Its a little hard to tell, but both boys have a butterfly on their Q-tip.

MMMmmmmm, funnel cake....Blakey, of course, LOVED it...Nico, not so much (Blakey kept calling it "tunnel" cake)

Patiently waiting for the pig races to begin. They were getting very squirmy but once it all began, they were entertained but those cute little pork-chops

Front row seats

sorry, repeat....still can't figure out how to delete pictures once I have posted them! I need IT help!!

Our end of the night dessert....The boys had soft serve ice cream. They both enjoyed it but N finally pushed it away after I think he got too much cold in his mouth.....

So, we were brave and we took the boys on the ferris wheel. It was a little crazy, but I had a good handle on both of them. They absolutely, positively LOVED every second of it. In fact, we saw a ferris wheel in a book last week and Blakey kept asking for "ride, ride, ride". Sorry Honey, not today.

Somehow we managed to keep the boys happy at the fair well past their bed time. We got back on the bus and I assumed they would be asleep in a 2 minutes. Well, the only one asleep was Andrew. The excitement must have been too much for them........For their first true fair experience, it was awesome!
